Six of us braved the pre-Rally of the Lakes traffic in Killarney to head to Ross Castle for a wild garlic photo shoot. We had a bit of a late start thanks to an emergency “we’re on our way – stuck in traffic” call from Marie and Angela, but soon enough, we were off to Library Point with MaryO leading us.

The display & smell were absolutely mind-blowing – wild garlic spread out like a rolling carpet, almost like snow on the ground.
We stopped at various spots to snap photos of the garlic, nearly losing Marie down a rather large hole at one point!
The motley crew rambled around taking lots of shots, smiling all the time!!!

Denis, John, Marie, and Angela were eager to explore further towards the old Copper Mine, finding some young deer along the way, while Mary focused on close-ups of bluebells and I was busy setting up my tripod and a slower shutter speed.

Trying to catch up with the others I turned to see Angela taking a rest and just looking out at the most spectacular view. Absolutely stunning.

I grabbed her and then we set off looking for the others. We regrouped near the lake, where the tide was out.

It was so beautifully peaceful that we sat down for a while to soak in the scenery along with some other tourists. I ventured onto the beach & set up my tripod again – it may have been too early for sunset shots, but the scenery was still stunning. Look at this fabulous shot from Denis.
After a couple of hours altogether, we headed back to the cars with a collection of photos to review when we got home. Here are a few to check out! Thank you to all that came for providing the brilliant photos of the outing.

So what’s up next? We are still looking at dates & places for future outings. As soon as we’ve anything formalised we’ll let you know. Again, anyone wanting to lead an outing let me know … some future ideas:
- Rossbeigh Beach
- North Kerry
- Night time at Ladies View
- Garnish Island (possibly August)
Any other ideas, please forward them to myself or Mary and we will try to sort some more outings out.
I’ll see you next time and if you have any photos from your week that you want to add to these updates and reports please do send them to me, cheers for now! Next in person Club meeting is on Thursday, 8th May when Eric will be giving a presentation of his Liverpool photos at 7.30pm.
Please note all our outings are for members only. If you’d like to join our club please contact our club secretary on secretary@killarneycameraclub.ie
