Hiya everyone, just a brief update!

We had a fantastic camera club outing last Thursday instead of our usual meeting, and guess where it was? We headed over to Conor’s favorite spot! 🤔 Can you figure it out? Ooooo, I might’ve dropped a hint in the title, 😜🤪😂!

We had an amazing turnout for the evening outing with easily a dozen or more people heading over to Ross Castle. After negotiating around the flooded areas in our wellies in the dark, Conor got us all set up across the little wooden bridge. The water was perfectly calm on the lake and so the castle was reflecting perfectly – just check out Eric’s incredible shot ==>> 📸

I think we all ended up with some cracking shots!! And maybe we will see a few in future Club competitions especially with the “At Night” competition being the last of the themed competition for the club this year.

We then headed through the castle gate to the lake side of the castle where the ferry. From here we had gorgeous views of the stars in the night sky above the trees, mountains and Lough Leane. Conor gave us guidance as we all tried a little bit of astrophotography and tried also to capture some of those seven planets that we were supposed to be able to see this week!

While reviewing my photos on-screen at the castle, I initially thought there was a smudge on my lens due to some odd discolouration in the top left of my images when I was taking the photographs over the lake (see the picture below). However, when I later examined the images in Lightroom, I realized that the vibrant reds and pinks were actually the northern lights. Isn’t that amazing? Do you agree?

Here are a couple of fun shots from the outing. I turned to see our fabulous reflections on the castle wall as we tried to get our “got it shots”. Can you guess who they are?

So what’s up next?  The plan is I am going to lead an outing on Saturday, 22nd March to Fota Wildlife Park. We’ll be meeting at the usual place but the start time and other details are still to be finalised – an email should be going out this week, I’d really appreciate if those that intend on coming let me or Marie know as soon as possible as we will need a couple of people to drive.

We are still looking at dates for the following outing(s) that are planned. As soon as we’ve finalised things we’ll let you know.

  • April – Rossbeigh Beach

Any other ideas, please forward them to myself or Mary and we will try to sort some more outings out.

Just to keep you reminded, this year our annual exhibition will be in Killarney House and Gardens for 2 months so to celebrate this, our theme will be Killarney National Park – please bear this in mind when you are out and about taking your images. For those that are unsure of what is covered by the national park check out https://www.nationalparks.ie/killarney/.

I’ll see you next time and if you have any photos from your week that you want to add to these updates and reports please do send them to me, cheers for now! Next in person Club meeting is in the new year on Thursday, 13th March at 7.30pm which will be competition night – Shallow Depth of Field (Colour or Monochrome).

Please note all our outings are for members only. If you’d like to join our club please contact our club secretary on secretary@killarneycameraclub.ie
