What a week of weather we’ve just had! Honestly, 10 days ago I was wearing a t-shirt and leggings taking a run down our lane thinking how lovely autumn was. Then this week we had 6 inches of snow overnight – I don’t think I’ve seen snow like it since I was a youngster!!!

As a result of the snow and icy conditions our usual in person meeting in Killarney was held using Zoom and Terry treated us to a presentation of his amazing images from his Campervan trip to Spain and Portugal. Whilst showing the photographs, he told us of his adventures throughout the 16 weeks away. It was great to take a trip through his memories and it was a much needed respite from the weather outside.
Below are some of the images from the Zoom call that I managed to take a screen shot from while Terry was talking!

His images told the story of life in the van, cooking fresh fish in a small frying pan (the pan determined the size of fish!!), buying vegetables from local markets, touring both rugged coastlines and the surrounding villages steeped in history. Terry was always looking for photographic opportunities and the choice was endless – tree-lined roads, crashing waves, sunsets and sunrises, modern buildings with geometric designs and their older counterparts with broken tiles and graffiti, and lots of doorways! I realised that Terry and I have one thing common, we love to photograph doorways (see below)!!!!

One thing that stuck with me throughout the presentation, was Terry’s ability to find and photograph reflections – I am definitely going to heed his advice to look for puddles, to get down low and find those reflections because they make truly fantastic photos!! We are all looking forward to part two of the presentation! Thank you very much Terry!!!
Storm Bert made its appearance early Saturday morning and stayed way too long. For safety reasons, we had to postpone Terry’s Outing to Rossbeigh Beach. It’s just as well, though, as it would be very difficult to take those dreamy photographs of the sea with slow shutter speeds in 100kmph winds with sand, debris and camera equipment flying around everywhere!!! Hopefully, we can reschedule before he heads away on his next van adventure.
Regarding future outings, other than trying to organise Rossbeigh, the next scheduled one to be lead by Keith, will be the Cork Christmas outing on Saturday 14th December. He is hoping that someone will offer to co-lead the outing along with him – if you are interested please contact him via WhatsApp. Unfortunately, I cannot make it so I am hoping that someone will step up and send me a few comments and photos of the outing for the weekly report. The details will be sent out shortly by Marie.
Just to keep you reminded, next year our annual exhibition will be in Killarney House and Gardens for 2 months so to celebrate this, our theme will be Killarney National Park – please bear this in mind when you are out and about taking your images. I’ll see you next time and if you have any photos from outings that you want to add to these updates and reports please do send them to me, cheers for now!
Next Club meeting is scheduled for Thursday, 5th December at 7.30pm when we will be going through the Curves Competition entries and announcing the winners.
Please note all our outings are for members only. If you’d like to join our club please contact our club secretary on secretary@killarneycameraclub.ie
