Hi all, MaryO kindly offered to take us on an unscheduled outing to Killarney National Park and five of us ladies braved the bad weather to hunt for mushrooms. Due to rain & flooding, we couldn’t explore many of the usual lakeside spots, but Mary’s eye soon found fungi to photograph.

After a while, we all began to spot mushrooms and found ourselves clicking away undeterred by the inclement weather.  As I looked around, Maryann was showing off her fab wellies whilst setting up a shot, Mary was kneeling in front of a fallen tree, Angela was taking shots with a big blue plastic bag around her camera lens but where was Marie? Yep, she’s hiding behind that tree!

Despite taking my DSLR, I actually only used my new toy, an Olympus OM Tough TG7.  I had quite the weight-training workout – I needed that break!!I found the macro function to be pretty fab, although was hampered by my unsteady hand so just as well I had a mini tripod!  Using the focus stacking setting meant I had a lot of homework to do later but I found it was worth it. And, being able to operate the camera remotely from my phone meant I didn’t have to be a complete contortionist, only a partial one!!

For most of us, this was a new experience as Marie, Angela and myself had never been out photographing fungi before, and it was a challenge! Maryann and Mary provided some useful tips and tricks, and I think we all came away with images that we were happy with – just look at this fabulous image by Marie!!

We had a walk around to Governor’s Rock to take in a blast of the stormy view – who new you could get waves on a lake – before heading to Muckross House for a well earned warm drink and a bite to eat!!!

Marie was so inspired she was of out to Glantenassig where she found a very weird fungi – if any one knows what it is let us know please!!!!
